Sancho's Cantina & Grill opened recently in Massapequa Park with intentions to serve the public in true Mexican style. Located smack in the middle of the hustle and bustle of Park Ave. in Massapequa Park, Sancho's has drawn much attention since its doors opened just a few short months ago.
Sancho's offers more of a traditional dining experience with a full restaurant and bar area. A cozy establishment that can seat up to 40-50 people at any given time, and a big "L" shaped bar area that allows sit-down eating as well.
Looking at Sancho's menu, many items struck my fancy and I was emphatically tempted to try all of them, all looked incredibly tasty and delightful. After a few helpings of complimentary tortilla chips and pico de gallo (which seemed mediocre at best), I finally decided on the Baja Shrimp Burrito. A burrito stuffed with delicious crispy golden fried shrimp, rice, black beans, cabbage slaw, and a chipotle tartar sauce the left my mouth sizzling.
After annihilating my burrito, I couldn't help but notice the "Hamburguesa's" section on my menu which listed a number of Mexican style burgers that looked to die for. I finally conjured up enough strength to order more food because my curious mind couldn't help but wonder what these burgers had in store. I mean a hamburger? At a Mexican restaurant?
"El Panchito" was next up on the list for me; a half pound seasoned patty topped with cheddar, guacamole, bacon, lettuce, and tomato. An interesting Mexican twist to this traditional American meal, my curiousness had gotten the best of me and I folded, and it ended up being one of the best burgers I've had in a while. The juicy burger mushed between a kaiser roll practically melted in my mouth and the unique but zesty flavor clashing of the cheddar cheese and guacamole danced in my mouth.
Sancho's Cantina & Grill is a fun environment for the whole family, although I did notice there was no separate kid's menu so perhaps children under the age of 10-11 wouldn't find it appealing.
The service at Sancho's was outstanding, colorful personalities and cheerful attitudes led to a pleasant dining experience for myself. My server, Theresa, was attentive and helpful the entire time and always kept a smile on her face making me feel enthusiastically comfortable.
It's called Sancho's Cantina & Grill and not the other way around for good reason. The impressive full bar is enough to host the wildest of party animals. A relatively diverse crowd of some twenty-something's all the way up to the senior citizen, Sancho's kept the party lively for people of all ages.
Sancho's Cantina & Grill deserves an A+ in my book and hopefully more of you Mexican food fanatics can find the time to head down there and experience it for yourself! Adios Amigos!

Gotta Go to Moe's!
No not Modell's Sporting Good store, there is a new Moe's taking over and it has taken Long Island by storm.
Moe's Southwest Grill puts a fast paced twist on Mexican offering quality food in a quick manner getting you in an out the door with a full and satisfied sotmach. Moe's has a supremely friendly atmosphere, upon entering, the first thing you will hear is a "Welcome to Moe's!" shout from behind the counter followed by all smiles leaving the customer feeling warm and welcome.
Moe's doesnt follow the atypical sit and order routine. Moe's allows you to customize each meal fresh to order right in front of the guest in a delicattessen style buffet of ingredients. Moe's is best known for its burritos that are packed with a choice of over 20 fresh, flavorful ingredients that are free. the menu also features tacos, quesadillas, fajitas, nachos, and salads along with, vegetarian and low-calorie options. And all meals are served with free chips and salsa.
I ordered the Homewrecker Burrito which consists of rice, beans (black or pinto), choice of meat (steak & pork $0.30 extra), shredded cheese, salsa, guacamole, sour cream, and lettuce. Decently priced at $7.69, the Homewrecker surely lived up to its name, completely packed with all the fresh ingredients leaving one feeling full and satisfied.
The service albeit very friendly, was suprisingly a bit slow, especially for a fast paced establishment. Moe's is also children friendly offering a seperate menu for them and using cute, playful names for food such as the kid-sized quesadilla "Mini-Masterpiece", or the kid-sized burrito "Moo Moo Mr. Cow."
Moe's offers a bit of a selection for our over 21 demographic with a few select bottled beers to choose from such as Corona, Dos XX, Bud Light, Tecate, and Modello.
Moe's Southwest Grill was founded in December 2000 in Atlanta, Ga. and has Long Islanders buzzing the last few years with five new locations, and with the recent opening of the Massapequa chain and the Commack chain in construction, the Moe's demand is clearly at an all time high here on Long Island and does not seem to be fading away any time soon.

To begin my quest to find the best Mexican, I stopped off at a place called Zim Zari California Coastal Grill located in Massapequa Park, New York. This surf shack style restaurant offers good food at a cheap price. The most expensive item on the menu came in only at 13.95, the fajitas. I ordered the Volcano Shrimp Tacos that only cost me $6.95. These 2 flour tortilla tacos were served with fried shrimp, tomatoes, avocado and topped off with a chipotle mayonnaise sauce that really gave it a kick. These mouth watering tacos were served with pinto beans and rice and a lime for seasoning. The service was excellent. Young, vibrant, and lively employees that catered to my every need and served with outright enthusiasm. The environment is also amazing, a California surf themed decor that really makes you feel like you are sitting in Huntington Beach. This establishment looked to be children friendly equipped with a separate kids menu that included items such as steak and chicken quesadillas. Zim Zari is a spot fun for the entire family. In addition, for the over 21 crowd, the drink menu was stocked with exotic margaritas such as the "Maui Wowie", a traditional margarita topped with pineapple juice and Red Bull for a pump-up, and a Mixed Berry Margarita made with fresh mixed berries. "It's a fun place with a great atmosphere and we can cater to people of all ages which is what makes our establishment stand out." said Robert Dearing, Assistant Manager of Zim Zari California Coastal Grill. Zim Zari currently only has one location listed in New York. For more information on Zim Zari California Coastal Grill check out there website at http://zimzari.com/

Bienvedido! Introducory Blog...
This blog was created in order to inform fellow Long Islanders on where to get the best Mexican food. In this blog each week there will be a review of Mexican restaurants throughout the Long Island area with feedback on the food itself, service, price range, hours, alcohol (if it is served or not), payment options, children friendly, reservations, attire, noise level along with any other useful information to give you the best review possible. Mexican food is often underestimated and not not often publicized. I hope you the reader find this blog useful when that craving for burritos and tacos kicks in and look to find the best that suites you. Adios!
